Virtual reality takes stakeholders on a tour of the digital worksite

Virtual reality is an effective way to view a building project from the design stage

Virtual reality can be used at the design stage of a construction project to see whether the building will work as intended from the client's and user's point of view. The virtual reality model allows you to move around inside and outside the building. This makes the plans more concrete and allows them to be discussed in a comprehensible way with the various parties involved in the project. Real-time adjustments to solutions can save significant design time and reduce design errors.

A virtual construction project simulation enables discussion

The application of virtual reality in the project development and design phases of construction creates the best opportunities for its promotion. By simulating the future, the plans become more concrete and can be discussed in an understandable way with the different parties involved in the project. By ensuring that everyone's views are heard and taken into account, many misunderstandings and even design errors that could delay the progress of a project can be avoided.

We help you organise digital site visits in a smooth and productive way.

Are you unsure how virtual reality would work for your specific construction project? We offer the opportunity to try virtual reality as a clearly priced package.

A digital site visit using virtual reality

A digital site visit is essentially a well-prepared meeting, either remotely or in person, where an agenda-driven discussion about the ongoing design takes place in front of or inside a virtual model. Or through video timelapses recorded in advance on the virtual model.

How to define the implementation of a virtual model

and preparing for the event*

  • List of issues to be addressed: observations, questions, ideas and other issues
  • Time for a facilitated workshop for decisions to be taken after the round table
  • Optimise time management in relation to the issues to be addressed (agenda, participants and calendaring)
  • Publication of a baseline map for the site visit (online group memo) and its prior distribution to participants
  • Decide on the persons responsible for the 3D composite model and the due date of the model version
  • Decide on any design options to be reviewed in the model and prepared in advance

    * 1-2 hour remote meeting with the preparer, using a virtual model if design models already exist

Once defined, you will have an understanding of what a digital site visit can achieve for your project: what issues can be decided and where additional time is needed.

The digital site visit is proceeding in a planned way

The digital site visit proceeds smoothly as the team moves through the premises along a pre-arranged route marked on a map. In this way, each participant knows in advance the points where the issues of importance to them will be addressed. Spontaneous observations made during the tour are noted down. In a digital working environment, the notes are immediately captured for further processing by the participants in a shared electronic tool.

If several people participate in a walkabout, feedback can be collected, sorted and summarised in a facilitated way afterwards.

The walkabout and the facilitation can be done remotely, in person or a combination of both.

All the benefits of virtuality

By making full use of virtuality, you will contribute to your plans and achieve the objectives you have set for your project. Using design data for simulation purposes with virtual models and virtual reality is surprisingly quick and easy. Not only the plans, but also the people attending the meeting can be present as virtual characters on or inside the shared model and tools.

With a smooth and productive process, you will increase your understanding of the importance of effective virtualization in driving design decisions and gathering user feedback. With our help, you will adopt new, effective methods into your own business.

Tietoa's service model provides a seamless and productive way to leverage virtual reality

Tools are important to us, but the goal of our service is to add value to people by improving processes and communication. We manage the bigger picture than simply producing a virtual model. Virtual reality transforms your building project plans into an interactive platform where all parties can come together to contribute to decision making in an efficient and effective way.

Rakentaminen on sarja monen tasoisia päätöksiä.  Jotta hankkeen päätökset osoittautuisivat oikeiksi, on niiden perustuttava parhaaseen ja ymmärrettävimpään saatavilla olevaan tietoon ja täytettävä tilaajan ja käyttäjän vaatimukset. Tässä törmätään usein toistuvaan haasteeseen: onko käyttäjillä,...
